Legislation and Climate Change

Climate change and the Law:  Climate change is caused by increasing amounts of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, released into the atmosphere.

A range of legislative measures has been introduced by the Government and forms a fundamental part of the UK's strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 60 per cent by 2050.

The Code for Sustainable Homes (the Code) has been introduced to drive change in sustainable home building practice.

Home Information Packs have been introduced by the Government in order to give home buyers important information about the energy performance of a home.

A zero carbon home uses renewable fuels, does not consume fossil fuels (non-renewable resources) and is highly insulated.

The Government's 'Standard Assessment Procedure' or (SAP) gives national energy efficiency ratings for dwellings.
